A self-paced program that provides clinicians, care managers, students, and other health and human service professionals with the skills and tools to engage family caregivers of people with complex conditions, building confidence and ability to provide care for both the professional and the caregiver. 

This program has been approved for 6.25 contact/clock hours by the Continuing Education Institute of Illinois, a continuing education sponsor licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for multiple health and allied health professionals. 

While many states accept CEI Issued credits, please review the state-by-state map at CEUPro.com. Licensing and credentialing requirements vary and are subject to change, participants are responsible for confirming with their licensing board or credentialing body that this program meets the requirements for credit.



How it Works:

  • Learn It

    Six self-paced modules, about eight hours total, with multimedia lessons and self-study questions.

  • Deliver It

    You learn to support caregivers through validation, education, and ordering specific strategies for their most pressing care challenge.

  • Earn a Certificate, CEUs & Get Coached

    At completion of modules you receive a certificate of completion and course leaders coach you as you deliver and implement the program. CEU credits are available.

Background & Evidence

Developed by Drs. Laura Gitlin and Catherine Piersol from more than 30 years of research and clinical practice. You will learn proven frameworks, practical tools, and a person-centered approach to care that improves outcomes for patients and their families. Initially commissioned by the University of Connecticut, with funding provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Connecticut Department of Social Services, as part of the American Rescue Plan Act, Section 9817.
